We are celebrating Purple Up! for Military Kids on Wednesday, April 15! You are asked to wear purple to show your support and thank a military child for their strength and sacrifices. Sacrifices, you may ask? Yes, these children sacrifice celebrating their birthdays, sports events, recitals, graduations, and holidays when their parent/parents are deployed. They suffer in silence — this is their strength.
American Legion Auxiliary members are asked to wear purple every April 15. Purple represents all branches of the military: Air Force blue, Army green, Navy blue, Marine red, and Coast Guard blue all combine as a single color: purple. As we wear purple on April 15 and throughout the month of April, please remember that every child deserves recognition, and every child should be told they are important and that they matter.
There are various ways to celebrate Purple Up! Day:
In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.
