American Legion Auxiliary Foundation grant year in review

Posted On: Friday, 08 December 2023

As 2023 draws to a close, the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation invites you to look back on the projects funded in the past 12 months and join us in reaching toward diverse and strengthened partnerships to better the lives of veterans, military, and their families in the new year.

In 2023, the ALA Foundation offered four grant opportunities to ALA entities: Veteran Projects Fund grants, Veterans Creative Arts Festival grants, Mission in Action grants, and sub grants. Then, in April 2023, funds for the Mission in Action granting initiative were depleted. The Mission in Action grant initiative will not be renewed in future fiscal years, as the ALA Foundation will focus on funding ALA programs and veteran support initiatives.

The ALA Foundation funded six Veteran Projects Fund grants totaling $51,831 for initiatives, including a room addition to a veterans transitional living facility, blanket warmers, and wheelchair bicycles for NYS Veterans’ Home in Oxford, N.Y. The ALA Foundation funded three Veterans Creative Arts Festival grants totaling $7,500 to support local creative arts festivals in Colorado, New York, and Tennessee. Nine Mission in Action grants were received and funded in 2023 totaling $13,311. Finally, the Foundation sub-granted $47,238 to 16 ALA entities so they could execute mission delivery at the grassroots level. Altogether, the ALA Foundation funded grant initiatives in 17 states totaling $119,880.

Additionally, the ALA Foundation granted $45,000 to the ALA for the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival and $20,000 for ALA Girls Nation.

The American Legion Auxiliary Foundation can do this amazing work only because of the generosity of our donors. Your gifts to the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation’s programs ensure we can continue to help ALA entities create better lives for the veterans in their community.
