“When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth.” – Mitch Albom, author

Moms give us unconditional love, make sacrifices for us, teach us right from wrong — this list could go on and on! This Mother’s Day, we honor the special moms in our lives.

American Legion Auxiliary National Headquarters recently asked our Facebook followers to tell us about their moms. Here is what some ALA members had to say:

“Ruby Fowler. She taught me how important family is and following her example I have learned how to be a good mother and now a grandmother. I wish I could see her one more time and give her a big hug.”
-Dorothy Hazen

“Teresa Santovasi always had an open door, food to offer, and a hug, if needed, to anyone who came to our house. We were far from rich but what she had she shared with others. Always smiling and no matter how she felt always said, "fine, fine, fine" even when we knew she was in pain. She never complained and I learned from her that we were lucky for what we had and appreciated it. My greatest joy was having her live with my husband and me for 14 years after my Dad died. She inspired me to be a better person.”
            -Janice Sentivany

“My Mom Marilyn Vernon taught me how to survive with nothing and that I could do anything I wanted. When an ice storm hit Oklahoma, I realized the survival training we went through as kids was priceless.”
            -Marsha Gross

“My mother had a significant impact on thousands of children during her 30 years of teaching elementary school. I didn’t fully realize this until she passed of a brain tumor in her 50s. There were so many former students and their families at her funeral that there was over an hour-long line to give condolences. It was truly inspirational.”
            -Amanda Cunningham Rud

My Mom Faye Mckenzie King passed away when I was 3 days old. I would have loved the opportunity to learn many things from my mother. However, I was blessed with my Stepmom Sandy King and she was truly heaven sent. I learned many things from my Mom that I value and cherish. I have grown to understand a mom is more than a biological bond, it's a bond in our hearts for all time.”
            -Jodie Miller

“My Mom taught me so many things about the Auxiliary and being a good member. My first time being sworn in as president my Grandma was my installing officer, the second time it was my Mom.
            -Patti Watson

“My Mom was a past president of the Sullivan-Warren Post of the American Legion Auxiliary in Green Bay, Wis. and she especially loved coordinating the ALA Badger Girl's State representatives.”
            -Mary Fawcett

“My Mother joined the Auxiliary in 1949. She was a charter member of her unit.”
            -Kathy Robinson
