The May 6, 2021 National Day of Prayer theme prays: “Lord, pour out Your love, life, and liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 reads, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
The first National Day of Prayer was proclaimed in 1952. Decades later, America still needs our prayers. We need to be praying for all people. Everywhere we look, there are people in need of prayer. The homeless on the streets, the refugees at our border, the sick and dying, our first responders, and our police. The times we live in are so unsettled and so stressful. We do not know what the future holds for us or our loved ones.
By praying, we share the message of God. People need to experience the love of God. They need to feel God’s arm around them and hear Him whisper, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
The future is unknown, but we can prepare for it by developing a healthy prayer life. This will provide us with strength in moments of weakness, and comfort in times of sorrow.
The power of prayer is amazing. It can conquer fear, it can mend a broken heart, relieve anxiety, and it can heal a nation. Prayer brings people together in a common cause. To converse with God. To be close to Him. To feel His presence in our lives.
A strong, healthy prayer life brings us closer to the greatness of God. A healthy prayer life teaches us discipline and to have a sensitive attitude before God. A healthy prayer life will bring you abundant joy. A joy that you can share with others. A joy that will carry you through in troubled times.
Prayer will prepare you for every situation you will face in your life. It will increase your faith. It will give hope to the hopeless, and peace to the distressed.
“May my prayer be set before You like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” Psalm 141:2
Many people will tell you that praying is a natural instinct. I believe that an effective prayer life is the result of a loving and consistent attitude before God. A willingness to bare all before Him and to be able to verbalize our wants, needs, and desires as well as our concerns and fears.
Find comfort in the arms of God. Tell Him what is wrong. Tell Him of the suffering of others. Tell Him what you wish for others in need. Tell Him of your hopes and dreams. Tell Him how thankful you are for all that you have in your life. You can tell God anything without fear.
Dear God, thank You for the power of prayer. Prayer is the key to unlock Your precious blessings. I will sing Your praises and glorify You. I ask that You bless our country and its people. Shower us with Your blessings and Your healing. Amen.
