Jan Pulvermacher-Ryan
2007-2008
National President

Jan Pulvermacher-Ryan of Madison, Wisc. was elected National President of the American Legion Auxiliary during the organization’s 87th National Convention in Reno, Nevada, Aug. 27-30.

Pulvermacher-Ryan holds America’s children near and dear to her heart. For her project as National President, she has initiated a campaign to raise $1.2 million to an endowment fund for “Children of Warriors.”

“Military families give so much to our communities and country, and Americans have an obligation to help them in every way possible,” said Pulvermacher-Ryan. “The $1.2 million campaign will raise the average National President’s Scholarship from $1,800 to $3,600 for 15 deserving military children each and every year.”

Pulvermacher-Ryan joined the American Legion Auxiliary through the military service of her late husband, Sylvester C. Pulvermacher, who served during the Korean War. She is presently married to Connie Ryan, a Marine Corps veteran.

The American Legion Auxiliary has 900,000 members across the nation and in several foreign locations. Affiliated with The American Legion, the Auxiliary is a veterans’ service organization with members in nearly 10,000 communities. The organization sponsors volunteer programs on the national and local levels, focusing on three major areas: veterans, young people and the community.

During the past administrative year, the American Legion Auxiliary actively pursued projects that benefited more than 252,247 children and its members volunteered more than 450,000 hours on behalf of America’s youth. Always community minded, the American Legion Auxiliary also donated $160,876 to Children’s Miracle Network and $7.8 million to veterans through its Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation initiative.

To donate to the “Educating Children of Warriors” campaign and provide educational opportunities to military children who face frequent moves, school transitions, isolation, long-distance parenting, and the stress of knowing Mom or Dad is in harm’s way, logon to the Auxiliary’s National Web site and donate today to the National President’s Scholarship: www.legion-aux.org/donate.
