The Homeless Card was a project of the 2006-2007 ALA VA&R Committee. It was designed under these guidelines:
1. Take advantage of the Legion Family's ability to provide a quick and broad distribution of a resource card through our established network of relationships with community-based religious institutions, non-profit organizations and government agencies who encounter and assist homeless individuals on a regular basis.
2. Develop a simple tool - a durable resource card - that might assist an already homeless veteran or aid in the prevention of homelessness for an individual who may be at-risk.
3. Information dissemination - recognize the resources our homeless population have access to and/or use on a regular basis; provide relevant hotline numbers, web addresses and local resource contact information that may provide or lead the individual to assistance when they are ready to seek it.
4. Control distribution of the resource card in a manner that will allow ALA to collect feedback from local providers to determine the effectiveness and value of the card.

Ordering Cards: Cards are available in bundles of 250; a maximum of 5 bundles per order. If you would like to request cards, please complete the order form and follow the instructions ordering.
Soliciting your Feedback: Occasionally you will receive a brief questionnaire asking for your feedback related to your use of the card and it value to the recipient. Your feedback is important as we make decisions related to the continuation of the project and for future enhancements to the card.
Customizing the Card: The back of the card has been created so that you can customize the card with location specific information. Using a simple template is easy - you will need a standard Avery Label #5360 and need access to a printer. Include local details about help in your area and include the sticker on the back of the printed cards.
The American Legion Auxiliary would like to thank you for the work you do on behalf of our Homeless Veterans - we're here to help you in your efforts. To share ideas, perspectives or give comments, email aladc@legion-aux.org.
