IN THE SENATE OF GIRLS NATION
Senators Cealey and Dominick of Illinois introduced the following bill; which was referred to Committee .
BE IT ENACTED BY THE SENATE OF GIRLS NATION ASSEMBLED.
SECTION 1. TITLE
This act may be cited as the "Disabled Persons in the Workforce Act".
SECTION 2. PURPOSE
The Disabled Persons in the Workforce Act will help unemployed, disabled Americans be seen as equals in the hiring process.
SECTION 3. DEFINITIONS
A disabled person is a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; or has a record of such an impairment; or is regarded as having such an impairment
SECTION 4. DISABLED PERSONS IN THE WORKFORCE ACT
The Disabled Persons in the Workforce Act entails that:
(A) The company will be provided a tax credit:
(1) upon their hiring of a minimum of 7 percent of the staff having disabilities.
(2) not to exceed $5600, amount on the basis of the size of the company.
(B) To be eligible for the tax credit, the person being hired must:
(1) have been diagnosed with a mental and/or physical disability.
(2) have been looking for a job for at least 6 months.
(3) have agreed to allow the company to apply for the credit.
(4) have supplied sufficient proof of disability.
(C) Funding will come from recovering money from tax-delinquent Medicare providers, and forcing tax evaders to pay for taxes before a passport is granted.
(D) Procedures will be put in place to prevent abuse of the tax credit.
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE
The act shall be effective for all companies already in compliance and to extend until January 2016.
