To simplify and reduce federal spending on corn subsidies.
IN THE SENATE OF GIRLS NATION
Senators Mayeda and Free of California introduced the following bill; which was referred to Committee .
BE IT ENACTED BY THE SENATE OF GIRLS NATION ASSEMBLED.
SECTION 1. TITLE
This act may be cited as the "Corn Subsidy Reduction Act".
SECTION 2. PURPOSE
The Corn Subsidy Reduction Act will eliminate direct payment to corn farmers and lower government spending on corn crop insurance.
SECTION 3. DEFINITIONS
Direct payments were created under the 1996 Freedom to Farm Act to be given to farmer, with the amount determined by the average production on a given plot of land in 1986.
SECTION 4. CORN SUBSIDY REDUCTION ACT
The Corn Subsidy Reduction Act entails that:
(A) Direct payments to corn farmers are eliminated.
(B) Loan subsidies by the government will be decreased to better accommodate
current economic needs.
(C) A committee that reevaluates the market after the bill passes and assesses the
necessities of food assistance will be put in place.
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE
This act shall be effective for all citizens of the United States participating in corn farming and those associated on or after January 1, 2014.
